Mount Teide, walking to the top of the volcano.

Mount Teide, hike from the base of the volcano to the top.

The most beautiful thing about a mountain, in this case, a volcano, is not only observing, contemplating, and admiring it from afar, but also hiking it from its base to its summit—in this case, the crater of the great volcano, Teide. Step by step, until you reach the top, to then feel the pleasure of enjoying the views from the summit of Father Teide.

Mount Teide, hike up.

Hiking up Mount Teide to the crater requires time (at least 5 hours, which I think is advisable, and even then, it's not enough to risk altitude sickness) and considerable effort. But if you have experience, it's not too difficult. Go slowly, at a very gentle pace, stopping every 15 minutes to drink plenty of water. Stop at 2,500 meters, 2,700 meters, 3,000 meters, and 3,300 meters. At each stop, at least 15 minutes. And as you get closer to the summit, drink more often. This is what experience has taught me. But the best thing is to try it and do it: hiking up Mount Teide from its base.
